Faux Flower Arrangement

A rustic, yet stylish arrangement of faux flowers in a tall wicker basket

This little styling project is so easy and quick to do, but with instant results.

There’s so much choice and variation in the quality of faux flowers, it really does pay to shop around and get the best you can afford. My advice would be to invest in better quality key flowers in your arrangement, eg. hydrangeas, peonies, rose etc and then fill in with greenery, berries etc as your budget allows.

The first thing to decide is what you’re going to put your arrangement in, as this will determine the quantity of flowers needed. I chose a tall kubu wicker basket, approx 35cm in diameter x 60cm high.

Choose flowers which complement each other both in terms of size and texture, for example, the full soft shape of a hydrangea contrasted with architectural green eucalyptus spikes works brilliantly. Obviously the colour palette you use is entirely up to you and your decor scheme, but soft, muted colours work much better and look far more luxurious and expensive than brightly coloured stems.

Lay out all your stems on the table and ideally group them by type/size. This will help as you begin to assemble your arrangement.

Start putting the larger flowers in the basket, followed by smaller flowers and berries to fill the opening. Taller stems can be cut or bent over if they are too tall. Next, fill in the gaps with greenery stems at different heights to add depth and structure. Adjust any of the flowers as necessary until you’re happy with the final result.

This arrangement is so flexible and can be adapted to suit the seasons or changing tastes.
